Just a Trucker’s Wife-The Beginning...Part 1

“Be in love with your life”

Be so in love with your life that you really cannot imagine living it anywhere else. With anyone else. Or in any other way than just how you are living. Right now. Today. My life as a trucker’s wife has led me to that conclusion by way of some amazing journeys. It’s really just begun. Three short years ago I really had no idea what I was in for when I promised to love and cherish the trucker by my side. But deep down, I don’t regret one minute of it. There are times I will admit...when an all-nighter pulled in the shop overhauling an engine so the truck can run the next day...is enough to make the strongest woman give up and cry. Or missing out on all the social life that your friends and their farmer husbands are enjoying while your own man is 1,000 miles away. It’s true.. there’s lonely times and hard times. The lawn mower and the sprayer will break down. Your car will get stuck in a snow bank. You will hear footsteps and creaks  and voices in your head as you lay in bed by yourself in the darkness of midnight as you wait for that phone call. That phone call that is your reason to look forward to the next day. Because he’s the love of your life and if it makes him happy to be out there shifting gears, then you wouldn’t even want him doing anything else. So go ahead and enjoy your life. Explore your own interests and hobbies and have plenty of girlfriend time. Get the social life packed in while he’s gone so on those special weekends when he’s home, you can let him rewind and relax. There aren’t a lot of people out there who realize what it’s like to be in a cab for days on end dealing with crazy drivers, log books, and load appointments. I was one of those unknowing humans just a few short years ago. Believe me tho, I’ve gone on the truck enough with my hubby to realize just how amazing your own big soft bed feels and how heavenly a shower can be. (Folks, showers are definitely under-rated.) Home-cooked meals are another real treasure. Which could get me started on another topic. Which I could talk about for several weeks on end. Beings that I love to cook and am at the moment, compiling a cookbook specially for truckers wives. But that is a subject for a future fit of writing. Hang in there, fellow road warrior chics. Goodbye until the next time when I am bored waiting for my truck driver to come home.
